Undead Nightmare: Undead Treasure Hunter locations

To start the Treasure Hunter quests, find your first map at a camp site outside of McFarlane ranch. It will appear randomly inside a chest. After that, use the map and the descriptions below to find the treasure:

Rank 2 - go to Vente's Place near Lake Don Julio and easily make your way by the mountains to find this easy treasure.
Rank 3 - Head to The Scratching Post, the camp where you meet the soldiers that give you the army uniform. Up the mountains, easy.
Rank 4 - Head to Sepulcro graveyard in Mexico, just south of there are a pair of tress, head past them to reach another bunch, search the area.
Rank 5 - Head to Casa Madrugada in Mexico, follow the map along the mountains and if you climb on foot on a cliffy part you'll find your treasure.

"Dastardly" achievement hint

Wait until a girl tries stealing your horse or during the random encounter where there are bandits behind a stage wagon. Kill the bandits and hogtie the girl, then find a train on your map and put her on the tracks in front of it.

Easy money

Find one of the bird shooting challenges. They are usually easy to find; just listen for shots and watch for a lot of birds circling in the sky. Accept the challenge and intentionally lose. The wager will then double. Repeat this until you have just enough money to make one more bet. Then, watch the sky and wait until you can see the amount of birds you need to win the bet. Accept the challenge, then go into Dead Eye mode. Take down the proper amount to win. Note: It may help to have moonshine or chewing tobacco in case you run out of Dead Eye. After you win the bet, put on your bandanna and kill the man you bet against. Loot his body and he will have the same amount of cash as the final wager. The more money you have to work with, the more you can make. It is possible to loot over $20,000 from him.

Homing projectiles

With a throwing weapon (Flame bottle, knife or dynamite) in hand, enter Dead Eye mode and try to imagine the normal targeting reticule on your screen. The target will not appear, but it works the same. If you rapidly tap R1 then it will be easier. When you release the object (automatic after locking on), the projectile will home in on the target. Try this with a stick of dynamite on birds; the effect is hilarious.

Easy Master Hunter Completion (Level 5)

In order to complete the challenge of killing a cougar with a knife, simply wait until the mission 'At Home With Dutch' (given by MacDougal in Blackwater).

At the point where you are confronted by the cougar, turn around and jump up on the rock after the cougar comes at you. Since the cougar will not be able to jump up to you, all you need to do is fall on top of it and spam your knife attack; takes about 3 hits. Skin and you're all set.

Note that this is a later in game mission, so you cannot do this challenge early on.

Easy skinning

Kill an animal, then walk over it slowly. Press RB to come to a stop over the dead animal. Next, press Y to get off, then press the Y again to skin the animal, then press Y one last time to get back on your horse.

Attain maximum honor and fame. A nun will eventually approach you. She will tell you that she and the other sisters have been gathering items to help your righteous cause. She will give you a cross that makes enemies less likely to hit you with bullets. Note: You must remain honorable for this to remain in effect.

Treasure locations

Search the following locations to find the corresponding hidden treasure. Collect all nine treasures to complete the Treasure Hunter challenge. Note: You should get your first treasure map from a random encounter, in which you save a Stranger from a group of bandits attacking his wagon. The subsequent maps for the Treasure Hunter challenge are located inside each successive treasure chest.

Hidden Treasure 1: Rhodes’ Gold (New Austin Territory)
Rhodes’ Gold is located at Hanging Rock, north of Armadillo in Cholla Springs. The chest can be found at the base of the largest boulder, under a pile of rocks in a narrow area, which can be reached by exploring the north side of Hanging Rock and following the narrow path such exploration reveals.

Hidden Treasure 2: Jackson’s Gold (New Austin Territory)
Jackson’s Gold is located just east of Rio Bravo near the Rio Del Lobo, at a location called "Del Lobo Rock". Find the gap in the rocks at the top of the cliff indicated on the treasure map, and save your game (in case you fall down to the riverbed). Move through the gap, and go to the right. Then, switch back to the left, and hug the cliff face until you can drop down into the shadow of the bulbous outcropping. Look at the map for a depiction of this route. The treasure can be found on a small ledge.

Hidden Treasure 3: Calhoun’s Gold (New Austin Territory)
Calhoun’s Gold is located in the basement of the old mansion in Tumbleweed. Enter it using the back cellar entrance on the west side, and walk straight until you reach the basement wall. The treasure can be found below a mounted bull skull on the wall.

Hidden Treasure 4: Tubman’s Gold (Mexico Territory)
Travel towards the San Luis River, starting from the Tree Of Skulls. The area is just north of Chuparosa. Proceed until you reach the second stone wall. Tubman’s Gold treasure is on the river side of it.

Hidden Treasure 5: Brown’s Gold (Mexico Territory)
Brown’s Gold is located on top of the rock spires in Crooked Toes, in Punta Orgullo just east of Escalera. Proceed past the small cave with the chest, and climb to the top of the spire, using a jump, hang, climb maneuver.

Hidden Treasure 6: Douglass’ Gold (Mexico Territory)
Douglass’ Gold is located at the Ojo Del Diablo, South of Chuparosa. The treasure is on the west side of the arch.

Hidden Treasure 7: Garrison’s Gold (Mexico Territory)
Garrison’s Gold is located northeast of Agave Viejo, northeast of Roca de Madera. The stool-shaped rock in the first two treasure map illustrations is just off the main road leading northwest from Casa Madrugada, just above the armadillo on the main map. From the stool-shaped rock, look southwest, and you should see a path that begins just above some rock spires. Follow it to its end to find the treasure.

Hidden Treasure 8: Pickett’s Gold (Northern Territory)
Pickett’s Gold is located east of the ranch at Beecher’s Hope, near a large tree split by a lightning strike. The treasure is buried in a gap in the stone fence north of the tree.

Hidden Treasure 9: Stonewall’s Gold (Northern Territory)
North of Manzanita Post is a small, snow-covered horse path. Follow it until you reach a plateau, then explore the north side of the plateau until you find a cave. Stonewall’s Gold treasure is inside the cave.

Multiply Poker Winnings

To multiply your poker winnings, perform the following steps:

1. Save your game near any poker table.
2. Play poker.
3. Go "all-in" immediately, and press RB to "Skip to your turn."
4. If you won, press B (to exit) then A (to confirm) and as many times as you can (B, A, B, A, B, A). If not, load your game and repeat steps 2-4.

You should hear the sound effect for leaving the poker game multiple times, and, if you wait a short period, you will notice that your winnings are given to you the same multiple of times you managed to press B, A before actually standing up. If you manage to out 2 people (all-in will remove players from the table) that's 75$ at the very start of the game given to your wallet up to 4 times.

There Will Be Blood reference:
The town of Plainview is a reference to the movie There Will Be Blood main character Daniel Plainview, played by Daniel Day Lewis. Take note of all the oil rigs.

Getting a new horse

After you get the lasso, locate a herd of wild horses. Lasso and break one. After the new horse is broken in, hitch the horse at a hitching post. Then, return to your bunk and save the game. The horse is now yours and will come to you when you whistle for it.

West Dickens urinates

Start a mission with West Dickens that requires driving or shotgunning his carriage. When you are a few hundred yards away from the mission's starting point, press Y to jump free. Remain idle and do not get back on the carriage. Eventually West Dickens will jump off the carriage and begin urinating.

Bureau Uniform

Get 100% game completion (all challenges, side-quests and items) to unlock the Bureau Uniform. When worn, local law enforcement and bounty hunters will ignore you.

Beating everyone in Poker in Armadillo

Note: This will satisfy the requirement for Scrap 3 of Walton's Gang outfit. First put on the Elegant suit( the one that lets you cheat in Poker). Go to Poker room in the back of the bar in Armadillo. Play a game and cheat while allowing them to see that you cheated This will make you duel. Kill or disarm the player that challenges you for Honor or Fame. Afterward, there will only be 2 players left at the Poker table. Play again and get caught cheating again. You will duel again. Don't cheat on the last Poker Player as the last player is fast and catches you cheating easily. Now you'll be playing 1 vs. 1. Use this pattern to win: Check or Call, then Raise and the Opponent will Fold Every time. If you want the game to go faster and BUST the opponent out, on your First hand, raise then check or call then raise.

Ghost town

Kill every person and animal in a town to have it marked as a "ghost town". Check the population sign at the town's border to check your progress. The town will remain empty for the remainder of the game. Note: Wearing the Bureau Uniform while doing this is recommended.

Access West Elizabeth / Tall Trees Area Early

There's a cliff and a waterfall in the far northern regions of New Austin -- just above the MacFarlane Ranch. Enter this area and you'll see "Tall Trees" appear on your screen. If you can manage to get arrested here you'll get carted off to Blackwater. From here you can access the full northern map. You'll need to auto save (see 'Save Anywhere' cheat) and die to return to the southern areas. If you buy the property in Manzanita, it will prevent you from doing this. However, it is possible to hop the unfinished bridge in Thieves' Landing to get back.

Determining horse breeds

If you go to the general store, you can purchase horses by buying a deed for them. Instead of buying the deed, check the info, and it will give you a description of the horse's appearance. You can compare this information with horses you break to help determine the horse breed.

Another good way to determine a horse's breed and quality is to break and ride them just a few seconds. You should be able to instantly tell the difference between a 1-star, 2-star, and 3-star horse. The stamina will deplete much quicker the lower the quality, and the horse itself will not run as fast. Physically you can also tell a difference. If you can see any ribs or bones, the horse is low quality, while thicker more muscular horses are the 3-star ones. You can get the 3-star Pearl from the "Bonnie" mission very early in the game. The Hungarian Half-bred is found in Mexico and is an off-white color. The Standardbred Pinto is all black and can be found in Mexico. Other horse breeds that can be found throughout the game are American Standardbred, Ardennais, Cleaveland Bay, Dutch Warmblood, Friesian, Highland Chestnut, Kentucky Saddler, Lusitano, Painted Quarter Horse, Painted Standardbred, Quarter Horse, Tersk, Tobiano Pinto, Turkmen, War Horse, and Welsh Mountain.

When you are herding, stand far back and just ride very slowly. The herd should follow the person in front of the herd.

Unlimited fame and honor

Go to Thieves' Landing and buy the elegant suite. Go in the saloon and play poker ($25). Get caught cheating by pulling the arrow to one side. You will have to duel someone. Shoot the gun out of their hand for extra fame and honor. Note: When you do this, the bullet may bounce off and hit someone else. They will start shooting at you. To make this easier, buy the house in town to save the game and get others off your back.

Access Mexico Early

To access Mexico early, travel to the bridge called "Frontera Bridge." Ride your horse quickly to the end of the bridge and get off the horse, letting it plummet into the water below. Do not call a new horse. Walk backwards until the railroad tracks start running into solid ground, turn left and go down a steep slope to the riverbank. There should be many small bushes by the river here. The music should also switch. If you don't hear the music, start over. Set up a campsite when you hear the music and you will find yourself on the Mexican side of the river. To get back, you have to travel to the bridge called "Romita de la Baya." Do the same thing with the horse here, let it fall into the river and set up a campsite on the island. The campsite should be near the edge of the island to the north, either to the left or the right of the bridge. You can also listen to the music here, when you hear the music change back to the "American" music, you can set up your camp and you will be back on the north side of the river.

Easy experience

Play in online Free Roam mode. Find a gang hideout and kill all the enemies, as well as the reinforcements that appear. Loot the bodies to get money and ammunition, then leave the hideout. After a short amount of time the enemies will respawn, allowing you to repeat the process as many times as desired.

Master Hunter rare animal locations

Search the following locations to find the corresponding rare animal:

Khan the Jaguar: Located in the Ojo Del hills area south of Chuparosa, south of the road. Use bait if you have difficulty finding him, and kill him with a gun.

Lobo the Wolf: Located near the Eastern edge of the Aurora Basin lake, northwest of Tall Trees. Use bait if you have difficulty finding him, and kill him with a gun.

Gordo the Boar: Located in the Stillwater Creek area, north of the road, south of the River, and Southwest of Thieves' Landing. Use bait if you have difficulty finding him, and kill him with a gun.

Brumas the Bear: Located in the Nekoti Rock area. He lives in a cave at the top of a mountain, northeast of the Aurora Basin lake. Kill him and take his pelt to complete the Master Hunter Level 10 challenge.

Additionally, the following animals can be found in the following location(s):

Bears: Can be found in Tall Trees.
Bighorn and Elk: Can be found in Tall Trees.
Cougar: Can be found around Rio Bravo, Fort Mercer, northern Cholla Springs, northern Gaptooth Ridge, and the southern and western Great Plains.
Foxes and Raccoons: Can be found in Tall Trees (at night).
Skunks: Can be found in Rio Bravo and Diez Coronos (at night).

Purchase two horse deeds and enter your item menu. Select a deed to summon that horse. Switch horses to force the game to save.

Online XP Farming

During online free roam, go to a gang hideout and take out the enemies there. When reinforcements arrive, take them out, then loot all the corpses. After you steal the money and ammunition, leave the hideout and the enemies should respawn after a short while. Repeat as desired.

The Shawshank Redemption easter egg

To the east of Beecher's Hope there's a broken tree beside the road with a small weathered stone wall under it. This is also the location where the treasure is buried for level 9 of the Treasure Hunter challenge. The location is all but identical to the location Morgan Freeman's character goes to to collect his treasure in The Shawshank Redemption.

Bounty Hunter (2%), which include eight in New Austin, eight in Mexico, and four in West Elizabeth (North).

Rank 10 challenges (4%), which include the ambient challenges Sharpshooter, Master Hunter, etc. Note: Reaching level 5 and 10 for each of them adds 1% to your total completion.
Rare weapons (2.5%), which include the , Mauser Pistol, Evans Repeater, LeMat Revolver, Semi-automatic Shotgun, and Carcano Rifle.
