Making sharp turns (joystick):
Pull Down on the joystick while turning in the direction you want to go until pointed correctly, then press Up.
Making sharp turns (keyboard):
Keep holding the accelerator, press the brake, turn in the direction you want to go until pointed correctly, then release the brake.
